Education
Mr. Poirier received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of New Orleans in 1990, after completing his first year of law school. He was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, Honor Society.
Ric received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, in 1992,
from Tulane University School of Law. He graduated with honors in Trial Advocacy, served as a Senior Fellow in the Legal Research and Writing Program, and received the American Jurisprudence Award in Admiralty: Personal Injury and Death. He also completed a focused curriculum and received a Certificate in Environmental Law.

Mr. Poirier is admitted to practice in state and federal courts, sitting in both Louisiana and Mississippi, including the US 5th Circuit Court of Appeal.
He is a member of the Louisiana State, Mississippi State, Covington, and Federal Bar Associations.
He is also a member of the Defense Research Institute, the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, and the Louisiana Society of Hospital Attorneys. He has provided Pro Bono services to
the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court and actively donates his professional time to the New Orleans
Pro Bono Project.
Mr. Poirier serves on the Board of Trustees of Leadership–St. Tammany and the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association—New Orleans.
He has serverd on the Trial Advocacy Program
faculty at L.S.U. and has spoken on a variety of topics, including: Louisiana Workers’ Compensation; Jones Act/general maritime law remedies; EMTALA; Ethics; Insurance Certificates; Medical Documentation and Risk Management; Oil, Gas & Mineral Royalty Valuation; and Medicare Set-Asides.
Mr. Poirier holds an A/V® Peer Review Rated certification mark from Martindale-Hubbell and was named a "Super Lawyer" in the 2007 listing of the top attorneys in Louisiana.
